Last night at Covent Garden we attended a performance of Mozart’s ‘Die Zauberflote’.
In the gods but with the gods too! The story has everything in it from magic to farce to love. And the music…Everything from revenge arias to Bachian chorales to triumphant ensembles is there! The injured world is truly healed by this heavenly work.
(I remember a university girlfriend asking me whether I loved ‘The Magic Flute’. I said ‘yes I liked it’. Perhaps not too convincingly….for her it was clearly a leading question. Our relationship never really developed. From that moment her leading question has been adopted by me. Not so much asked but hinted at. I’m glad I’ve never had a need to ask that question to my wife.)
I simply adore Die Zauberflote it teaches us so much the gods Isis and Osiris the Frayernity animals the story touches all levels of humanity in its unfolding the lesson to be learnt also is that love conquers all we all have to be simply loving forgiving and patient caring and adoring of Nature ultimately no one is perfect. There was an amazing model of the planets as they revolved on a table and these influence our wellbeing they are the great mysteries of our galaxy maybe future things to come extinction by heat ice water who knows which way we might extinguish life on earth as we know it. This is a tale with a happy ending as Papageno gets his Papagena and Tamino his Tamina. Thankfully the subtitles help one understand the dialogue better although it is not so easy to follow action scenery music costumes as well as read and follow the dialogue which was in German. Quite a difficult and sometimes daunting task. The music by Mozart is both mysterious and delightful the singers enjoyed their craft beautifully presented in alluring costumes the senery was vast dark at times but interesting. Despite our visit in the Gods remembrance of times past it was a most and enjoyable evening all 3 hours with one interval. COVID 19 restrictions was mainly to wear masks and distance where possible but it seems to me that precaution is lost in the wind!
