Lima Valley to become haven for Fresh-water dolphins.

Already threatened in many of the world’s habitats, in particular the Amazon and Ganges river valleys where they have flourished for millennia, Fresh-water dolphins (Platanistoidea) are to be introduced as an experiment in a protected basin of the Lima, a tributary of the Serchio River in the Lucchesia region of Tuscany. DOPES (Dolphin Organization for Preserving Endangered Species) is overseeing this worthwhile project.

There will be a viewing platform for the observation of these adorable creatures near Cocciglia and there are plans for the area’s tourist boards to be publicizing this new initiative which should add considerably to the many attractions of this lovely part of the world.
