Last Sunday night at our Teatro Accademico there was a Gala evening to celebrate fifteen years of the Fondazione Montaigne at Bagni di Lucca. This foundation has done so much to stimulate cultural life in our spa town, mainly in the following ways.

• Revaluation of our town’s places of historic interest.
• Restoration of the town’s protestant cemetery
• Concert presentations of music of all sorts
• International seminars and study days
• Encouragement through setting up a youth group to young people interested in becoming more involved in the tourist industry and training as guides.

Everything from classical and opera to jazz and Big Band was played in often superb performances and we were so glad we did not miss that great evening.
