Due to the dramatically increased threat from Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (-Halyomorpha haly -originally introduced into Italy in 2012 through imported Chinese roof tiles) the country’s first breeding centre for one of the bugs’ most effective predators, the Spotted Lady beetle (Coleomegilla maculata) is being established in a disused paper mill near Bagni di Lucca. According to world authority Dr Coleotteri these structures provide ideal conditions for the beetles. Details of how infested households can apply for Spotted Ladies will shortly be made available.
