In the Valley of the Black Tower

In addition to Bagni di Lucca’s two libraries, one run by the comune and the other by volunteers, and each filled with enticing reading material there’s the town’s living library in the form of the many writers living here. The other evening, in the peaceful grounds of Villa Webb, itself Byron’s summer residence, Enzo Selmi presented his latest adventure book about archaeologists discovering hidden Etruscan facts which take them all the way to the southern Egyptian desert. Definitely a book to while away languid hours on the beach!

PS it was also the birthday of Virgilio Contrucci, central figure of the Val di Lima Vicariate of our town. A delicious ‘rinfresco’ in his honour naturally followed the presentation.
