What a cracking city is Krakow!

In the morning we visited the old city from Wawel hill with its castle, cathedral and tombs of the kings and queens of Poland… and the resting place of Chopin.

We continued towards the great main square with its markets and lively street scenes. How noble architecture once was!

For the afternoon it was a trip to the huge salt mines where whole churches and ballrooms have been carved out of its deepest interiors.

A journey through violent thunderstorms returned us to the city and the shelter of our tenement house room.

Che città fantastica è Cracovia!

La mattina abbiamo visitato la città vecchia dalla collina di Wawel, con il suo castello, la cattedrale e le tombe dei re e delle regine di Polonia… e la tomba di Chopin. Abbiamo proseguito verso la grande piazza principale, con i suoi mercati e le sue strade animate. Quanto era nobile l’architettura un tempo!

Il pomeriggio è stato dedicato alle enormi miniere di sale, dove intere chiese e sale da ballo sono state scavate nelle profondità della città. Un viaggio attraverso violenti temporali ci ha riportato alla nobile città e al riparo della nostra stanza in un palazzo popolare.
